To deal with an uncontrollable fire – We Need Fire Fighting Equipment.
Be it a commercial building where IT programmers develop software, a public place for relaxing and entertainment, or a residential society where people feel at home without any worry. There’s one necessity in all these places and that’s nothing but “Safety”. The safety of human lives, their properties, and natural resources is one of the most important things for humans to survive and live peacefully.
Apart from natural disasters, there are many man-made sources that can cause massive destruction and harm to human beings. One of such elements that can cause harm to humans is “fire”. And to deal with fire, there came into existence the “fire fighting equipment”. These tools help firefighters to handle a fire that can be controlled without letting it cause any damage.
Fire Fighting Equipment
The equipment specially designed to rescue people, properties, and natural resources from fire and to stop/control fire at the initial stage without letting it cause a huge amount of damage is known as “firefighting equipment”. Some of this equipment can only be used by highly trained professionals.
Types of fire fighting equipment
● Portable Fire Fighting Equipment
These fire fighting tools are used to deal with small fires that are detected as soon as the fire ignites. It serves the purpose of prevention and protection from fire.
1. Fire Blankets-
These fire-fighting systems are installed at places of higher risks or areas that are prone to catch fire easily. They are not movable and work only for the area where they are installed, for example, engine rooms. The two most commonly used firefighting equipment in India under this category are:
2. Fire Extinguisher-
These fire fighting systems are installed at places of higher risks or areas that are prone to catch fire easily. They are not movable and work only for the area where they are installed, for example, engine rooms. The two most commonly used firefighting equipment in India under this category are:
● Fixed Fire Fighting Equipment
These firefighting systems are installed at places of higher risks or areas that are prone to catch fire easily. They are not movable and work only for the area where they are installed, for example, engine rooms. The two most commonly used fire fighting equipment in India under this category are:
1. Fire Hydrants-
They are used to provide a large amount of water supply in emergencies. The firefighters plug the hose or pipe into the hydrant and open the valve to deal with the fire. Fire hydrants are connection points by which water can be thrown directly onto the fire or to fill fire engines.
2. Automatic Sprinkler System-
It consists of a water supply via a pipe that is connected to a sprinkler head. Whenever a fire is detected, the sprinkler starts functioning by sprinkling high-pressure water on the fire. With technological advancements, this firefighting equipment can detect heat and sprinkle water in a room before it turns into fire.
● Fire Fighting Apparatus
Along with the above-mentioned equipment, there are firefighting apparatus too that provide firefighting solutions. These apparatuses are customized vehicles designed to deal with different types of fire. Different types of equipment are installed on these vehicles. Fire engines, fire bikes, water tenders are some of the most used firefighting apparatus.
1. Water Tenders-
These fire fighting vehicles can carry a large amount of water to the place of the incident. It also contains a pump that allows the drafting of water into the tender from a water source like a stream or lake. Usually, water tenders are designed to carry about 10,000 litres of water.
2. Aerial Apparatus-
This apparatus helps in creating an escape way for the rescuers and an access way for the firefighters. It takes the firefighters to heightened locations and is majorly used by European and American firefighting departments.
